Dean and Karen are both members of PPIAC. Karen joined in 2017 and Dean has been a member of PPIAC first in 2002 and then when he returned to the private sector in 2008. He has served as the VP of Membership (2010) and is the immediate past Board Chairman (2010-2012). In October 2012, PPIAC President Robert Orozco presented Dean with the PPIAC Life Membership Award. In presenting the award, Robert noted that Dean has committed many hours to not only the Professional Private Investigators Association of Colorado, but also as an ambassador for PPIAC to other associations and professional investigators nationwide.
Dean has dedicated this award to his wife, Karen, without whom nothing would be possible and everything is. They also speak and provide distance learning training as requested.

Dean has been a member of NALI since 2008, and Karen since 2015. In June 2009, Dean completed the process and examination for the designation of Certified Legal Investigator (CLI - www.NALI.com/cli.php). Since 2014 Dean has served on the CLI Committee for Region 6 (Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, Utah and Idaho), he has also served on the Legislative Committee in recent years, and is in his second term as Chair. In addition, Dean and Karen serve together on the Education Committee. He is also a regular contributor to "The Legal Investigator" with Forensic Focus, the official quarterly journal of NALI, for which has has received three Editor Awards.

Dean has been a member of NCISS since 2008. He has served as a Regional Director, Secretary, 3rd to 1st VP, and is now a Past President / Past Board Chairman and active Board member. He has served on several committees, including as various Chairs. Dean has contributed to both the bi-monthly "The eAdvocate" newsletter and three times annual "Your Advocate" official bi-annual journal of NCISS, and has served as the editor for several years.

In 2018 Karen was selected to be the Executive Director for NCISS. In that role she will oversee the operations of NCISS and its members, assisting the Executive Committee and Board.

Dean and Karen have been members of CDITC since 2011. Both are Certified Criminal Defense Investigators (CCDI - http://cditctraining.com/certificationawards.html) and Certified Forensic Interviewers - Forensic Testimonial Evidence Recover (CFI-FTER - www.DeathCaseReview.com/afi-llc-blog/our-forensic-testimonial-evidence-recovery-fter-experience). Dean provides training in medicolegal death investigation for the CCDI trainees and is a Faculty Advisor for Forensic Investigations.
World Association of Detectives (www.WAD.net)

Dean has been a member of WAD since 2010 and was appointed in October 2011 as one of the North America / USA Ambassadors. In recent years Dean has been the Governor of the Americas (North, Central and South), overseeing Ambassadors in each.
In 2015 Karen was selected to be the Administrative Manager for WAD. In that role she assists the Executive Director and Executive Management Team with the operations of WAD and its members.

National Defender Investigator Association (www.NDIA.net)

Dean and Karen joined NDIA in October 2011. NDIA focuses on criminal defense and is comprised of criminal defense investigators, primarily federal and state public defender offices, and private sector investigators. They also speak and provide distance learning training as requested.

Dean has been a member of NAME since 2003, as an Associate Investigator / Affiliate Consultant (for non-medical positions in medicolegal death investigation). AFI maintains an expert affiliation with Stephen J. Cina, MD (www.AutopsyReview.org) as the consulting forensic pathologist.
International Association for Identification (www.theIAI.org)

Dean has been a member of IAI and the Rocky Mountain chapter (www.RMDIAI.org) since 2003. His primary interest has been in Crime Scene Investigation, Forensic Photography and Fingerprint Comparison and Identification, as well as decedent identification.
Mensa USA (www.us.mensa.org)

American Mensa is the largest chapter under Mensa International. To qualify for Mensa, a score in the top 2 percent of the general population on an accepted standardized intelligence test is required. Dean is joined by fellow CDITC Faculty Member and CCDI, Brad Perron, as a fellow member.
