Thank You for referring a grieving family to us, either by direct or indirect referral!
To make sure we can help, it is important to share information with them and to also have information from them. We cannot schedule a consultation call with a family member until we have intake information. If you have any questions in advance, please email or call us and we will walk you through our process.

The following information will help you with our Investigator Referral Program, and an informational email you can send to the inquiring family.
Questioned Death Consultations - PI to client
You retain and managed the family-client (preferred)
Our fee for the initial case review and consultation is $1950; however, the family should be told with our relationship we are discounting their fee by $200 to $1750. Also, you are retaining $350 for your time and our appreciation in cases you manage the client and provide the materials; we are paid $1400 directly by you. Note - we will guide you on what to request, or we can do so directly ($300 additional fee).
Please complete this online intake form from the perspective of your client (not your contact information - we will NOT contact clients - this may be needed for releases):

Direct referral - we retain and manage the family-client
Direct referrals, in which we manage the client, are discounted $200 to the family (to $1750), and you are paid a $175 referral fee. Be sure to send the family this link for them to complete the online intake form:

The above fees are if we are provided all available records, reports, and photographs from both law enforcement and the medical examiner / coroner. There is an additional $300 fee to obtain these.
The reason for the difference in fees to the family and referral fee is the additional time it takes for either your agency, or ours, to manage the family-client.
If we find there it is warranted to consult with a forensic pathologist, forensic toxicologist, or other forensic experts - we will contact you. These are separate referrals, consultations and fees direct to the referral. Similarly, if we find there are factors warranting further investigation, we will appropriately advise in our verbal or written report.
With appreciation, Dean and Karen Beers
===== MESSAGE TO FAMILY / COPY & PASTE - EDIT - AS APPROPRIATE TO THE FAMILY =====
I have completed the necessary steps to retain equivocal death and injury causation experts for your cause of death investigation. We have had a long personal and professional relationship and recommend working with them. [YOUR AGENCY] would be happy to accept your case. While [YOUR AGENCY] would be the main investigations firm on this case, and thus, your point of communications, we also have a relationship with Dean and Karen Beers, Expert Medicolegal Death Investigators who specializes in cause of death investigations. They would be working with us on this case.
The rate for your proposed case would be $1,750 - a discounted flat rate for families, from $1,950. Keep in mind that this flat fee is based on having all relevant records available and does not include any fees or costs associated with obtaining them. It is also based on a general cause of death investigation with no complications or need for additional efforts (this is described below in more detail). Keep in mind, should any additional efforts be needed, I will contact you before implementing those additional efforts.
Please feel free to review this information and get back to me at your convenience to let me know how you would like to move forward. They will need to be provided the records, reports and photographs from the medical examiner's office (autopsy report, toxicology report, investigator's report, scene photographs and autopsy photographs) and investigating law enforcement agency (first responder's narratives and supplemental reports, investigator's narratives and supplemental reports, scene photographs and autopsy photographs).
Standard Expert Equivocal Death or Serious Bodily Injury Review / Analysis: This is based upon a low to medium volume of records, reports and photographs for non-complex cases. Based upon these records, reports and photographs available, we will analyze and review the official investigation and provide an expert opinion if standard protocols and practices were followed, and if the medical examiner or coroner cause and manner of death, or injury causation determination are consistent. We will make recommendations if further investigation is warranted by our agency, and/or our consulting forensic pathologist and consulting forensic toxicologist. This flat fee includes a verbal report and synopsis letter only. An estimate for a written report and additional services will be provided upon request. $1950 discounted to $1750 for Families
Includes agency time and in-house expenses with client provided records, reports and photographs; or $300 additional time and expenses apply)
